The fabulous wedding of Jen and Zo was held at the Westin Crown Center and I will be the first to tell you – this wedding was like no other! I LOVE outside weddings – and I really love outside weddings when they are held on a deck overlooking our wonderful city! Jen and Zo’s day was filled with so much excitement and Em and I loved being a part of this wonderful day. There is nothing better than watching a wedding come together from so many angles. Em and I spend most of our time running from room to room, floor to floor, making sure we have everything covered – and definitely making sure we got every little detail! Needless to say we were wore out by the time we were done with this wedding – but the images we captured was so worth it!

Jen has wonderful girlfriends that helped her get ready – and as you can tell from the images below – she looked STUNNING! We also had a great time photographing the guys, and listening to their stories, as they helped Zo get ready for the big First Look session that was revealed outside on the deck. Again you can tell from the images below how excited he was when he turned around to see his future bride for the first time! Do you see how amazing Jen’s dress is? It took my breath away!

The Westin Crown Center is a fabulous place to get married – and the only draw back to the entire day was being on edge that the rain would not hold off long enough to have the ceremony on the deck – but it did – and it was not only beautifully presented, but the message from their pastor was absolutely beautiful. I loved witnessing two cultures come together out of love for two individuals.

As with most weddings – the fun just begins right after the ceremony – so it was par for the course that we loaded up in the party bus and headed downtown to the Power and Light for some fun shots. As you can tell – we had fun! Cheers Jen and Zo! You both make me smile, and I am so happy to call you both my friends! ~ah

Meet Mandie -I LOVE HER! That pretty much sums up this blog post! ha!

Check out her super fun images from Loose Park!

Kathleen and Ben got married at one of my new favorite places to shoot: Cellar 222 right off SW Boulevard! This was my third time shooting here and I really love the atmosphere of this venue. I love the little details of this building b/c in all actuality you don’t need to decorate this venue a lot to give it a rustic feel – it just comes naturally which I love! Kathleen and Ben were one of the best couples to photograph b/c they were up for anything I came up with. I love when a B&G fully trusts me! Enjoy some of their fun shots below. ~Ah

The wedding of Ken and Stephanie….

When I first met Stephanie we had our consultation at Starbucks – my favorite place on Earth!  I instantly LOVED her. She was so sweet, quiet, and she was just one of those young girls that had her stuff together!  We talked about her and Ken’s love story – you know how they met, how long they had waited to get married etc etc….I instantly thought -  (because of course I had only met Stephanie) that I would be photographing this quiet little couple. You know those quiet and shy people that you really have to work to smile for the camera……boy was I ever WRRRRONNNNGGG! Thirty seconds after meeting Ken – it was on! He is 90mph all the time and there was no problem photographing exactly who they are as a couple -  and let me tell ya it was absolute fun photographing the two of them! They were so relaxed, so fun and they just love joking with each other. You can check out my previous blog post of them at Shawnee Mission Park.

Ken and Stephanie’s wedding day was nothing but spectacular. If anyone could pull off a small intimate wedding it was Stephanie and I loved the fact that they had it at their favorite place- their home! From the family and friends to the detailed food in the pictures below – it was a perfect day for a beautiful wedding! I love this couple – and I love that they are happy!

Check out some of the fun images below!

Meet my new sweet friends Amber and Chris-

I am well aware that I talk about how much I love every couple that I blog about – I’m also well aware that I love everyone’s love story and think that each story I blog about is my favorite…I cant help it. They are all my favorites! Every couple has a unique story and every couple has their own way of showing love for each other….I’m a sap for a good love story.

When I met Chris and Amber last year I was instantly in love with their innocence and flirty nature with each other. They just have a sweetness about them that made me smile. Chris is super funny and Amber just rolls along with him. They just have this small town love that I adore. From engagement photos to wedding day Amber and I spent a lot of time talking about her big day – which in return I think ended up making us “friends”. Their wedding day was so special – from getting married in the church that Chris’s parents got married in, to 3rd generation pictures, to Amber’s dad making the wedding cake and reception food – it was just a wonderful day from beginning to end.~Ah

Katie + Dustin = A sweet love!

I met Katie through my friend Joy. I always love when my good friends recommend me to future brides because that means they must really trust me! :) Which therefore means I must REALLY do a good job or my butt is on the line! haha!

When I met Katie for our consultation I just knew that her wedding was going to be filled with love and admiration. The way she talked about Dustin and their families made me giddy with excitement. More importantly it reminded me (which sometimes I need reminded) that even though my business is structured around “wedding photography” its also structured around turning a love story into a documentary. I couldn’t wait to watch this day go from two single people to a couple united as one. I wont go into all the mushy details but I will tell you that I absolutely love this couple. Their love for each other, their families and God makes me smile from ear to ear. ~ Ah

Meet Megan – Burlingame’s little rockstar!

I met Megan and her mom through my girlfriend Amber Moon. I shot Amber’s wedding in Burlingame and I had the sweet pleasure of then meeting Megan who just so happened to be a SENIOR!  Have I mentioned ho much I LOVE shooting HS Seniors? Megan’s photo shoot makes me smile because the wind was nuts the day we did the shoot!  It took me roughly an hour and twenty minutes to get to Burlingame and about thirty minutes to get home and upload the photos. I was SO nervous the wind was going to ruin most of the images – BUT NO WAY! This country girl rocked every one of them!

Meet Hayden! I’m going to go out on a limb and say he’s probably the cutest Staley High School Senior! HA. Don’t get mad at me for saying that Hayden! :) Hayden wanted something a little edgy and he definitely wanted to bring his car for his pictures-so where better than the west bottoms! We even got some fun pictures of big sister Hailey while she was in town! I love these pics! ~Ah

I can honestly say the very minute Ken and Stephanie pulled up beside me at Shawnee Mission Park it was non-stop hysterics. What a fabulous couple! We had the most beautiful December day for engagement photos- I don’t think we could have asked for a better one! Ken is non-stop laughter and Stephanie just takes it all in with such a great attitude- I REALLY love this couple. I love how their images turned out and after an hour I really felt like I knew them and knew exactly the fun photos they were going for. I think we pulled off several looks – which is what we were going for! ~Ah

Kelsey and Derek – What a trip! I SOOOO loved this unique and absolutely to die for fun wedding! Emme and I laughed from the time we got there until the time we left the reception! I love all the ideas Kelsey came up with – all on her own! She has such a fun vintage feel to her and I loved the way we edited the images to capture that vintage look she was wanting! Who says a do-it-yourself bride can’t pull off one of the most creative weddings of the year! Cheers to Kelsey and Derek and the fun time we had at Old Shawnee Town! ~Ah

I love photographing people I know and love-especially those that I’ve actually “watched” grow up and become young adults! So….when I got the call that Taylor needed Senior pics taken I was right on it! On a whim we went to the Ernie Miller Nature Park (which I cant wait to shoot at again) then to Taylor’s home away from home – ONW! As you can tell from the pictures – we had a fun time with a lot of laughs and fun memories!

Taylor-I have watched you grow from a little guy into an awesome young man – I love your dedication, your drive and most all of the love you have for your family. I know that when you leave home your going to make the most out of your life and be awesome at whatever you do! I so love you-

We had such a fun senior shoot in the west bottoms-I KNOW its turned into the meca for photographers, but I still love going there and not only that but my seniors love it too! So as long as its working I’m going to keep shooting in the grunge! I loved all Carmens ideas-class/grunge/black swan! It was one of my favorite shoots of the year! ~Ah

Meet Pastor Derrick, his wife Nena and their church staff. I met Pastor Derrick and Nena at random one night while shooting in the bottoms. I listened to their story on life, each other, God and family and was instantly amazed at how much prayer, effort, love and support they put into leading people to God. They believe in helping those who want to know God better, who are lost, who are homeless, who have lost their way or just need a safe place. The Way Fellowship may not be your typical Johnson County church, but they believe in doing good, honoring and treating others with respect and good will, they believe in one God and Jesus Christ. I cant wait to see how their church grows – I will especially be sending lots of thoughts and prayers there way for their grand opening this Sunday! ~Ah

Newlyweds – By Paula Haataja

“I do.”
“I will”
“Till death do us part.”
He held her hand, grinned at her.  She smiled. Guests at the wedding, they had known poorer, now were comfortable.  They had weathered sickness, enjoyed years of health.
“You may kiss your bride.”
He squeezed her hand.  Newlyweds.  They are still today, twenty some years later.

Ohhhhh Samantha! Little do you know what YOU have done for ME! :)

The last three weeks at Amy Hoskins Photography has been….well…much of a blur! Basically I’ve been swamped. Overwhelmed. A bit stressed -and finding myself (like most business owners) at year-end needing a break! When I first started photography I naively thought how hard is this? I’ll buy a camera, I’ll point it and snap the picture! Boy was I ever wrong. I never realized all the little details that go into owning your own business, having the knowledge  and know-how to own your own business, the money to own your own business and all the energy it takes to keep it running and fresh etc etc etc! All this rambling really does lead up to Samantha!

The week I took Samantha’s pictures I was needless to say overbooked! I had 9 sessions that week and I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off . I was turning circles and not really making sense out of much.  I felt I was running ragged, I was starting to feel warn out, tired and just not full of the energy that I wanted. Then I met Samantha! A girl who was excited for her pictures, generous, bubbly, pretty on the inside and out, sweeter than my sweet tea but most of all she seemed starry-eyed and eager to just jump right in and do whatever I asked her to do for her pictures! Our session was fantastic-her pictures turned out exactly how I wanted them to and most of all she was happy with the outcome. Maureen, Samantha and I laughed, hugged, laughed some more…..it was exactly what I needed. That hour and a half made me feel alive again and even though I’m back to running ragged again I have a new attitude that goes with it.

A personal note to Samantha: THANK YOU for reminding me why I got into this business! Thank you for reminding me that anyone can have a job but I’m fortunate to be doing exactly what I have always dreamed of. You slowed me down that week-you made me thankful, grateful and most of all you brought me back to reality. Its funny the people that come into your life and the paths we cross. You are MOST beautiful-and I hope God wraps his arms around you and takes you to places you’ve never dreamed of. xoxo

I tried to think of a few adjectives to describe Brianna…but there are just too many! She just has a fun sweetness about her that I just LOVE. As you can tell she is super photogenic-hence all the images on this blog!

Brianna and I had a fun day shooting at the Red Barn in Weston MO. It was an overcast day which are my favorite days to shoot! The rain held off and we got some amazing shots. I cant say enough good things about 1) Brianna and 2) The Red Barn. As you can tell Brianna rocked her photos and the Red Barn is an amazing place for any type of pictures. Meet Michelle and Tyson-we LOVE LOVE LOVE this couple!

Just when I thought I couldn’t find a sweeter couple to photograph here comes Michelle and Tyson- TWO of the SWEETEST people I have ever met.  Emily and I had a fantastic day shooting their beautiful wedding that took place at The Colonial Church of Prairie Village.  The day was filled with so many beautiful memories for everyone-including the air that went out in the church on a very hot steamy july day! ha! Hey-whats a wedding without a few minor hiccups right? After the wedding we took a little detour to The Liberty Memorial for some city shots – as you can tell they turned out stellar! After a lot of fun at Liberty Memorial a few urban shots a long the way we made our way to my favorite place in just about all of Kansas City – Brio on the Plaza! The ultimate place to have a reception!

I so want to wish Michelle and Tyson a lifetime of happiness! You two make me smile. ~Ah

It was SO cool hooking up with Kayla to take her HS Senior pics. It hard to believe how fast time flies – it seems like just yesterday you were a little girl and now you are growing into a beautiful young woman. I so love you!
We had such a fun time running around Drexel taking pictures….most of these shots were taken at the spillway, behind the shops of Main street, an abandoned building we found, some railroad tracks on the outskirts of town and at Kayla’s grandmas house. As you can tell she ROCKED her pictures and got such a great variety of shots. Girl-you are so easy to photograph, you made my job easy. :)

Emme and I took a little road trip to Topeka Kansas to shoot the wedding of Marlina and Jason – as you can tell from the images below their wedding day was beautiful to say the least!  Marlina looked absolutely wonderful – and hey the wedding party didn’t look too bad either!  The ceremony was held at St. Matthews Church in Topeka and the reception at Top of the Tower. The images below were shot around  Lake Shawnee – which I think is one of the prettiest places in Topeka to take pictures…. and then we finished up for some edgier shots by the Amtrak station. It was quite the day! :) Best wishes to Marlina and Jason!

Oh how I absolutely LOVED photographing Virginia and Nate  – and what a sweet love story they have!!!I talked to Virginia several times on the phone and fell in love with her  story on how her and Nate met in boot camp…..it was the sweetest little love story and I was so happy she shared it with me. Not only did they meet and fall in love, but after boot camp, they both had to move to separate states and learn to make a long distance relationship work.  Needless to say they have been living apart from one another for some time now, so when they flew into Kansas City to see each other, it was not only heartfelt, but incredibly sweet and romantic. I really love this couple and not only love them for their commitment to one another, but everything they do for our country. Cheers to a great love story. ~AH

Evonne and Theodis’s s wedding was probably the FUNNEST wedding I have ever photographed!  It was non-stop excitement from the time I arrived until the time I finished. Lets just say Evonne and Theodis definitely know how to throw a party for their closest friends and family! Emme and I started out at The Crown Plaza hotel taking pictures of Theodis getting ready, or should I say Theodis was helping these three handsome little guys below get ready while fielding telephone calls – like a typical groom to be usually does! ha. After that we headed to The Sawyer Room for images of Evonne and her girl! As you can tell The Sawyer Room has beautiful bridal suites and is probably one of the prettiest venues around to host a wedding and or reception. All other images on this blog were taken offsite in downtown Kansas City- as you can tell there was a lot of fun going on!

I so wish Evonne and Theodis a lifetime of love and happiness…..after months and months of planning you guys finally did it! xoxo~Amy

I met Jen and Zo a few months back and was smitten by there sweetness and love for one another.  Jen and Zo wanted to have a little fun in Lawrence so we found some railroad tracks near Abe and Jakes, and some fun rundown buildings next to Johnnys Tavern for some edgier shots. Then we headed to the University of Kansas to get some more classy/romantic shots of the two of them. September is right around the corner….and I cant wait. Its going to be one of the funnest weddings! ~ah

Side Note: Lets just say I had some teenage girls jumping up and down one night when they saw me editing Jen and Zo’s engagement images… they thought I did a photo shoot with Usher! As you can tell Zo has a striking resemblance to yes…the hearth-throb….USHER. :)

Im a country girl no matter how much I try to become a city girl, my roots are in Drexel. So when I have a couple who want to do their engagement shoot on a farm in God’s country….well it just puts a super big fat smile on my face! When I met Karen at our consultation she told me all about her wedding day and I was anxiously sitting there screaming inside “pick me, pick me”. She told me all about her wedding plans at The Loretto in Kansas City, and then she mentioned doing engagement pics at her mom and dads farm in Spring Hill Kansas. It was soooo right up my alley a) I love The Loretto and two….I love the wide open country and the beauty of a farm. Karen’s mom and dad (who I love) have a beautiful farm outside of Spring Hill….it totally took me back to my roots at Papa Ricks. As you can tell from the images below….we really worked the farm and got some great shots of Karen and Richies love for one another. A beautiful August wedding is right around the corner, and I can not wait for it to get here. ~Ah

So its no secret I love to shoot in the West Bottoms in downtown Kansas City. I’ve been shooting here for years, and even though its become the hot spot of photographers all over, I cant help but always suggest shooting in this area for great colors and grunge. I so very much love Kelsey and Derek-why? Because they are totally outside the box! I love that they just roll with whatever and I basically just stood back and watched them embrace each others personalities. Which I L.O.V.E. It makes my job so much easier. lol. Their engagement shoot was so much fun and their wedding in October is going to be probably one of the most creative weddings I will shoot this year! So…stay tuned to see more fabulous shots of these lovebirds towards the end of the year. ~Ah
